Most elementary teachers would probably agree that teaching our students writing can be a challenge. Writing seems to be one of those subjects that you either love or you really don’t – and that holds true for both teachers and students. Not everyone shares the same passion for writing.
Some students struggle with finding inspiration, while others struggle with organization, clarity, and creativity. Learning to write well is a critical skill that is essential for a flourishing life. It’s not just about communication, but also about critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression.
Many educators find it difficult to find a clear way forward with presenting all that is necessary to build confident and articulate writers.
That’s why I am very pleased to announce a new writing course, created by Letty Rising, for elementary teachers to help students become more proficient writers.

This structured writing course is designed specifically for Montessori educators looking to integrate writing into their classrooms in a meaningful way. This course includes scripted lessons that feature demonstration videos, sample sentences and paragraphs for guided practice or independent work, and follow-up activities. All lessons have the corresponding Common Core standards listed in each lesson template.
By the end of the course, Montessori educators will have the knowledge and tools necessary to create a rich and robust writing experience for their students, helping them to craft clear and effective sentences, structure paragraphs to support their ideas, and develop outlines for multi-paragraph compositions that are well-organized and coherent. These skills will serve as a strong foundation for success in any writing task in the elementary classroom.
In Letty’s own words…
I have a vivid memory of hiding beneath a low-hanging palm tree in my front yard, clutching a dog-eared journal in my hands, and penning short stories about the adventures I yearned to embark on to the other side of the mountain just outside my home. I recall composing lists of items that I would carry with me and jotting down questions that arose in my mind regarding my imagined journeys. My writing began with words and sentences, and before long, stories were streaming from my heart into my hand, and I hardly wanted to stop.
As a teacher, I understand that not everyone shares the same passion for writing. Some students struggle with finding inspiration, while others struggle with organization, clarity, and creativity. Learning to write well is a critical skill that is essential for a flourishing life. It’s not just about communication, but also about critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-expression.
I created a writing course for elementary teachers to help students become more proficient writers. The introduction to the course covers various topics, from creating a writing-friendly classroom to providing constructive feedback and motivating students to write.
Although the course may seem mechanical at first glance, it’s anything but! It’s a source of tools, strategies, and resources teachers need to teach writing in an engaging and effective way. Writing has a magical quality because it has the ability to transform words into something more than the sum of its parts. The parts, in this case, are sentences, which are the foundation for all writing. Sentences represent the foundation of written expression, and this course focuses on various sentence expansion and enhancement techniques that will contribute to creating interesting writing.
Enrolling in this course will help you unlock the potential of students and empower them with newfound confidence and abilities to express themselves in ways they may have never imagined. By implementing the techniques and strategies learned in this course, students will become stronger writers and develop an appreciation for the power of the written word. They will be inspired to write their own stories and convey their message with clarity and conviction. Join me in this adventure, and let’s inspire the next generation of writers together!
