This is the adorable little face of Timmy Hadsall. Timmy’s mom, Teresa, is an AMS certified Montessori teacher who now has a small home-based business called Montessori by Mom. I say small business, but their products are loved by many families and children around the world. Perhaps you are one of those families?
I am in a Facebook group with other bloggers and small business owners, and about a month ago I saw a post from Nathan Hadsall, Timmy’s dad, about how grateful he was to have an online business that allowed him the time to spend with his new baby boy. I am copying some of his post below.
“My wife Teresa and I left the 9-5 nearly 4 years ago. We created a Montessori subscription product for parents and teachers. We had no idea how much work and money it would take to get that off the ground. We nearly failed… but we didn’t! There was even one week, a few months after starting, when we couldn’t afford to buy milk! My dad asked what we wanted for Christmas, and I said a gift card for the grocery store. But just months later, our business exploded and we had to rent two houses because we needed space for more inventory!
Being self employed is one of the most challenging, but rewarding things I’ve done. Fast forward to today, we own a house, enjoy working together, and just had our first boy. I know a lot of dads can’t be there for many of their wives appointments, but I was able to be at all of them. A lot of parents both have to go back to work right away, but both of us work from home and get to spend so much time with little Timmy.”
Nathan posted this on July 19th. I saw it on July 22nd. I loved this post. I loved their story, and I loved that they got to be with their new little baby. I loved everything about it! I know Teresa and Nathan a little bit, but this was the first I had heard about the birth of their baby, and so I congratulated them.
And then my heart stopped.
I still get choked up thinking about that moment. The very next person who commented after me said, “I’m so sorry for your loss.”
What? What did that mean?
I scrambled around to find out what they were talking about and learned that Timmy had just passed away.
This is not my child. I’ve never met him. But my heart breaks every time I think of this. I cannot begin to fathom what Teresa and Nathan are suffering through. My heart goes out to them, and to all parents who have lost a child. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Needless to say, this news shook many of us in the online community. We decided to gather together to support the Hadsalls in any way we could. Family and friends set up a gofundme account to help with funeral expenses. You can read more about that here. The Hadsalls are very grateful to all the people who have contributed. Now, they are just hoping to find a way to pick up the pieces and get back to day to day life.
This is where we, and you, come in. The family needs to stay busy, and needs to get back into making a positive difference in the lives of others.
