The Continent of Africa

April 19, 2013 By Seemi

We’re learning about the continent of Africa this month!

Preschool activities for learning about the continent of Africa

Here we have our materials for the study of Africa displayed on our Geography shelf.

I’m lucky to have a sister who travels a lot and brings back treasures for the classroom!

So many fun things to touch and examine here!  These items are displayed around the classroom.

These smaller items are placed in our Continent Box.

I photographed each object and made a lift-the-flap card to go with each.  With the flap closed, you can read the name of the object and use it as a label.  Lift up the flap and you see the picture, which you can use for picture matching.  I’ve also added some more information under the flap for the advanced readers in the class.  A little map is printed inside with the country of origin highlighted. This takes some time, but makes a wonderful addition to a continent box.

This little girl was so inspired by these materials that she grabbed a piece of paper and made a “shopping list” for her mom!

Animals from Africa {Free Printable Download}

We have some lovely African animal models and we made some 3-part cards to go with them.  All of our free printables are available in the Resource Library.

Here’s a pin map we made of Africa using a laminated map glued onto foam core board.  The flags are printed out and taped to toothpicks.
