Preschool Activities for learning about Animals in Winter

Montessori ShelfThis is our Unit Studies shelf with activities to help children explore what animals do in winter.

Tracks in Snow- MontessoriHere’s our setup for making animal tracks in playdoh.

Playdoh tracksA little glitter in the white playdoh can make the work even more attractive.  I used the animals from our North America box for this activity.

Matching Animals to their tracks – a free printable from Montessori for Everyone. MFE has a wealth of great freebies at this link!

TracksMore animal tracks.  This is a hand-me-down set I received.

Hibernating Bear in a Cave craftBear in a Cave craft.  I adapted this idea from one I found here.

Hibernating Bear Craft- MontessoriTo add an additional opportunity for fine motor practice, the children pin punched the outline of the bear rather than cutting it out.

Local Winter Birds- MontessoriThese are some 3-part cards we made of local winter birds.  It’s fun to use these when we learn how to make the bird calls.
