As the winter season approaches, incorporating seasonal vocabulary into your classroom can make learning engaging and fun. Winter Words About the Weather and Elements

  • Blizzard – A severe snowstorm with strong winds and low visibility.
  • Chill – A feeling of coldness in the air or in the body.
  • Cold – A low temperature, often causing discomfort or requiring warm clothing.
  • Drizzle – Light rain falling in very fine drops.
  • Flurry – A sudden and brief burst of snow or activity.
  • Frost – A thin layer of ice that forms on surfaces when the temperature drops below freezing.
  • Hail – Small, hard balls of ice that fall from the sky during a storm.
  • Ice – Frozen water that forms a solid, slippery surface.
  • Icicle – A hanging piece of ice formed by dripping water that freezes.
  • Sleet – A mix of rain and snow or ice pellets falling from the sky.

Winter Words About Clothing and Accessories

  • Boots – Sturdy footwear that covers the feet and ankles, often used in snowy or wet conditions.
  • Coat – A warm outer garment worn to protect against cold weather.
  • Earmuffs – Padded coverings worn over the ears to keep them warm in cold weather.
  • Gloves – Hand coverings with individual sections for each finger to keep hands warm.

  • Jacket – A lighter outer garment typically worn in cooler temperatures.

  • Fir tree – A type of evergreen tree commonly used as Christmas trees due to its strong branches and pleasant scent.

  • Holly – A plant with glossy green leaves and red berries often used as winter and holiday decorations.
  • Pine – A type of evergreen tree known for its needle-like leaves and strong wood.
